I write Scenes, not Stories

My writings never have a beginning or an ending. I always said I write scenes, not stories. I am a storyteller because I create these short stories, but there is no intro or ending. It’s usually the climax, and then, it abruptly ends. I’m not sure why I do this either. I’ve thought about it and tried to dissect this thought process, but, ultimately, it comes down to me having control anxiety and this is my only way of letting of some type of control go in my life. Again, story for another time. I let the reader decide the story’s own path and ending. Very, very frustrating for the reader – I know.

I do get asked sometimes why not just read a book? I love reading, but it goes back to the control aspect. Sometimes, I don’t like the direction an author takes a book, or I don’t like the way an author approaches a plot line, so I either rewrite it or, better yet, I just write my own. Sometimes, I will count the number of times I cringe when I read certain books. This is the very reason why my TBR pile is never ending and half consist of books I put down and never picked back up again. So, yes, I do read, but I prefer writing my own.

Fiction. That is all I like to read. I’m not even a huge fan of fantasy or mystery or thrillers. I like fiction because fiction has the ability to transport you to another world, even if it’s briefly. But the difference between fiction and the other genres I mentioned previously is that fiction, though unreal, is also very realistic. Think about that for a second. A picture may be worth a thousands words, but the ability to paint a picture using only words is a feat in itself. One which I greatly admire, appreciate, and attempt at every time I pick up my pen, iPad, or laptop.
